Video Game Addiction is a Social Problem

A new conclusion in the study of addiction has led many to believe that video game addiction is not actually an addiction at all. Keith Bakkar of the Smith & Jones Center in Amsterdam has been working with kids who supposedly suffer from this addiction. Bakkar explains:

"These kids come in showing some kind of symptoms that are similar to other addictions and chemical dependencies, but the more we work with these kids the less I believe we can call this addiction. What many of these kids need is their parents and their school teachers - this is a social problem."

xPirate's Thoughts: What!? This is blasphemy! Of course our young children suffer from addiction to video games! How else would they be able to sit there for hours on end doing nothing but staring at the T.V. Oh, wait, that's exactly what video games were designed for.

Even I could have told you years ago that video game addiction is nothing more than a kid who needs a hobby. Maybe they should take up blogging and blog about their precious video games? Let's face it, doctors these days are too quick to label kids and teens with new and absurd medical problems. That's how they make their money.

I say, let kids be kids and play all the video games they want! Afterall, you're only a kid once, right?

  1. well I my self think this more like a social problem than addiction. Lack of playing garden, individualism, is a common thing we find this days. That encourage children to look for something that they can do it all by themselves in their own room. and video game is just a perfect answer.
