Mumbai Crisis Summary

Late night Wednesday, November 26, 2008 Mumbai, the financial capital of India, was victim to at least ten simultaneous terrorist attacks. The terrorist's main targets were two five star hotels but other sites of attack included the famous Cafe Leopold, a train station, a Jewish center, and a hospital. Witnesses claimed they were looking for anyone carrying a U.S. or British passport. Two days later the fighting still continues with 144 confirmed deaths and many others injured.

The Indian Foreign Minister, Pranab Mukherjee, claims that the group taking responsibility, the Deccan Mujahideen, does not take orgin in India. World leaders are not ruling out that the group had connections and funding from other terrorist organizations. Allegations have been made that the unknown group was from Pakistan. The Pakistani Foregin Minister responded with:
"This is a collective issue. We are facing a common enemy and we should join hands to defeat the enemy."
Allegations have also been made that some of the attackers were British citizens with a Pakistani background. UK officials denied this claim when Indian officials told them that none of the attackers that had been killed or arrested were British.

xPirate's Thoughts: I find it crazy that this situation has still not been resolved after two whole days. I think we are dealing with some pretty committed terrorists here. I'm with the U.S. and other world leaders that say this attack could not have been pulled off by a small group that has never been heard of before.

I sure hope that the Pakistani Government isn't responsible for the attacks, because that just means another war that this world doesn't need. These are also two nuclear armed nations we are talking about, so fighting could get pretty ugly if this escalated to war. And with India being a big U.S. ally, we'd be bound to get involved. Let's hope, however, that instead this strengthens India and Pakistan relations and they are able to fight off the terrorist organizations together like the foreign minister suggested.

This will be the last post about the situation in Mumbai unless things take a dramatic turn. You can follow the full story on my blog with posts as the action is happening:
